Any museum named bestlovedfilms must dedicate space not only to surprisingly loved films (see the S-list) but also to films with an off-kilter, cultish sensibility, films made by and for (and often about) misfits, miscreants and misunderstood deviants. These films wouldn’t have looked “better” with bigger budgets or chosen to be “more mainstream” if they could have. After the earlier galleries (which include Rocky Horror and others), this is the collection that’s way too weird for some, but just perfect for the imperfect.
